Thoughts and Reflections:

I am big enough that I have occasional fans reach out to me directly to introduce themselves or suggest instrument makers. To be real, very few... Regardless, I like chatting with each one of them..

But Jeff was one of them recently, and we hit it off immediately, encouraged by my immediate appreciation for his newest album, which you can find on his website above. He recommended one of his friends, Sam Fishman, a frequent collaborator to be a guest, and we were immediately off to the races. 

In the course of the planning and chatting, we chatted a lot about the process of found sounds, and the philosophies of instruments and music making. While Sam doesn't really do much exploration with making instruments, and Jeff does some in order to achieve new sounds we want, none of that was an issue! First and foremost, as percussionists, they have incredibly unique perspectives of what "sound" means and thus what qualifies as an instrument or making instruments, so it was great to hear their perspectives on it! It was also great to talk about composition and making music too... although the channel is about instrument-making, I am more myself a musician, so being able to relate to that was fantastic. As a result, I am chatting a bit more than I normally would have planned to! 

They were fantastic guests to have on!

On a more personal note: I'm still getting better at this podcasting thing and ironing out some issues. The first (previous) episode was meant to be a test run to polish up the technical elements, but somehow this episode proved more challenging. My audio didn't sound all that good and I couldn't fix it. And you'll notice that some video is missing occasionally. These are unfortunate issues, but doesn't take away from the substance of the podcast. But I guess you do by learning!
